Here we are near the wharf waiting to ride the
cable cars. *G
Finally on board. :)
Teri thought this sign in China Town was funny. Yes.. Because it says "Caca". -sigh-
We didn't get to Alcatraz as they were booked two days ahead of time, but this
photo was almost as good, and free!
Pier#39 looking at the sea lions.
"Hmmm... which hat looks nicer darling?"
You can spend quite a while tooling around pier 39.
This is"the place to be" for a sourdough bowl of clam chowder and some clam
strips.
A pretty girl in a pretty city. *G ;)
The famous crooked Lombard Street.
Teri steps in the shot...
And a gimped up Tom-n-Teri shot AT the famous Lombard Street. *G
Nice view from the top (yes, it's quite a hike).
A view from a cable car.
My baby enjoying a ride in the cable car.
Here's the Golden Gate on a nice cool day...
And here's how we got there!
These are called "Go Car"s. Very cool little three wheeled two cycle
vehicles that will take you all over San Fran.
They have built in GPS navigation and little person in a box that tells you
exactly where you are, what you're seeing, and where to go next. :)
A pretty little waterfall in Golden Gate Park.
Teri navigated us off the beaten path to go visit the "Painted Ladies", the
famous houses in the background, not the eccentric hippie puppies. withe hacky
sack. *G
After San Fran, we made our way up through Sonoma for a visit to the wine
country.
Here we are at the one winery that we toured. Benziger.
We thought Teri's mom Sara would like this shot of the outhouse...
turned into a phone booth. :)
It's all about the grapes.
and they have quite a few.
Here's a layout of their vineyard blocks.
Here's a giant vat.
And here's their custom drilled cave entrance where they keep the barrels.
Here they are...
We thought this was funny. Sara should like it.
Teri got a kick out of this license plate as it seemed to describe her plight
in life. :)
After the wine country, we continued up Highway 1 with the ocean on one
side...
and the trees on the other.
The cliffs and the trees extended up into the overcast clouds.
After spending the night in in Ft. Bragg CA, we took a ride on the old Skunk
Train line.
It was a nice trip...
with a lot of scenery.
It was around three hours deep into the young growth red woods.
First the roads disappeared...
then the power lines...
then the phone lines...
All trees.
---
Here we are at the end of line, 10 miles from the closest road.
A break for a final glamor shot.
Can you find the white stork in flight?
Pretty...
and green...
This was taken from the car. He's eating a blackberry.
This is the aptly named "Big Tree". over 19 ft in diameter.
Me behind a burned out trunk and in front of a fair ring formation.
Teri and the redwoods.
These were our neighbors the night that we camped out in the redwoods at
Patrick's Point State Park.
Our humble abode, complete with the new traditional camping placard, "The
Weeks Hotel".
From northern CA, we drove up into Oregon.
It was very rustic...
and very beautiful.
This was just off the side of the road.
This is one of the peaks that confronted us as we approached Crater Lake.
On our way up to the ridge...
Here we are with the beautiful backdrop... *G
of Crater Lake and Wizard Island.
Here's a nice silhouette shot of Teri.
and the winning photo.. after some contrast adjustment with GIMP. *G
Postcard shot of the rim. The lake is around 4 miles in diameter.
With outward sights as far as the eye can see.
---
This is just inside the rim, a pumice formation called "Pumice Castle".
Back near our hotel in the woods, this system of waterfalls and ravines was
just 1/4 from our rooms.
Our last day in Oregon, we decided to go for a guided horseback ride through
the redwoods. Very nice.
The horses were extremely calm and responsive.
There she is...
On our way from Oregon back down through CA into Redding, we just had to stop and take a shot of Mt. Shasta.
Hey Jim, we got a kick out of this hippie liberal anti-pollution sign sign.
Yes, that's a manatee at the bottom being smothered in raw sewage. This is
also the state where it's a punishable offense if you do not pick up your dog's doodoo.
This was a spur of the moment fun shot in our hotel room. We're both in this picture, can you see Teri? hehe...
And here's the raging metropolis of an airport that we rushed to get to so
